Let's talk about being diagnosed with N.E.A.D
Being diagnosed with Non epileptic attack disorder can come as a massive shock. It may have been diagnosed or suspected as epilepsy from the onset but then to discover its not epilepsy after all can leave a person literally in a state of shock and confusion. It can be very difficult if the diagnosis hasn't been explained or even worse explained in a way that makes the patient feel as if they are to blame or faking it. Then there may be a phase where It's hard to work out if the diagnosis is actually good or bad news. Epilepsy can be well controlled with the right medication but the seizures can be life threatening so there is a sense of relief when you realize it's non epileptic. Then you discover how complicated and how much work and patience is needed to recover. All of a sudden it seems a much bigger battle. Non epileptic seizures can be a result of stress, trauma, anxiety, pain and many other factors but because there isn't a definite medication to treat it and it takes time to determine what is triggering the attacks or seizures it can be easy to lose hope. I'm not a Dr but I have supported hundreds of people affected by N.E.A.D over the last seven years and I am here to remind you that if you are facing that battle, you are not alone. It is absolutely possible to improve your quality of life, reduce your Seizures and it's even possible to beat them. Many people are winning the battle, many have won the war and have beaten their Seizures and are working and driving again. It's so important to overcome those times when you feel defeated. It's only natural to have days when you just want to hibernate and rest and that's OK, it's important to listen to your body and get your rest. Take one day at a time, an hour at a time, even ten minutes at a time if you have to but build your strength, get back up and carry on the fight because it's absolutely possible for you to win that war too.. It doesn't matter if you lose the odd battle. If you keep getting back up, you can win the war. If you need back up, please do not hesitate to get in touch or join the Facebook group. It's full of lovely supportive people facing the same battle. You are not alone ☺ #NotFakingIt #nead #PNES
